AboUT the American Advertising Awards
The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting nearly 35,000 entries every year in local AAF competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
Conducted annually by the AAF, the local tier is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, across the country, local entrants vie to receive an ADDY Award recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.
Entering the American Advertising Awards supports the entire advertising industry, because the AAF and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds to enhance advertising through programs such as public service, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education, and consumer awareness.
Selection of the most creative entry in each category is affected by a scoring process in which a panel of outside judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A Gold ADDY is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries in the category. Entries that are also considered outstanding and worthy of recognition receive a Silver ADDY. The number of awards given in each category is determined by the judges, based on the relative quality of work in that category.

Chris Anthony Hamilton
Chris is an award-winning Director and Cinematographer living between Atlanta, GA and Verona, Italy.
With an education in film from Hofstra University, Chris honed his skills in New York City working with giants including Spike Lee, Sesame Street and Ralph Lauren and has had the likes of such prolific people as Barack and Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey in front of his lens.
His award-winning short films have screened at festivals internationally and his content has garnered more than 17 million views online. Most recently he received the award for Best Director at the 2020 Beyond Earth Film Festival.
He may be most proud, though, of his eclectic karaoke repertoire which he’s happy to put on display at the wrap party.
Having started his career at Arnold Worldwide in Washington, DC and MullenLowe in North Carolina, Evan currently wears many hats at dPost in Buffalo, NY as the Director of Post Production, Creative Director and Lead Editor. He helped dPost take home Best of Show at the most recent AAF Awards in Buffalo, has led a workshop at SXSW called Creativity in Crunch Time, and has also been accepted into the Cannes Film Festival with his short film about a urinal that teleports people 200 yards away. He’s worked with clients like Alzheimer’s Association, Lowe’s, Patrón, Pep Boys, Ulta Beauty, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Food Lion, InstantPot, Amtrak, CSX, and the NC Lottery. Evan is also a husband and father but, let’s be honest, that’s probably not as interesting as a wormhole toilet.
Laura started her career as a web designer for VGM Forbin. Her 13-year tenure that culminated to the creative director role saw significant growth for the company, which specializes in digital strategy for financial institutions and health care businesses.
From there she built herself as a young leader inside and outside of the work environment, by volunteering countless hours for local community groups. She was most influential in her local chapter of the American Advertising Federation, in which she served as president for six years, won eleven American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) for web design and print work and was honored with the coveted AAF Silver Medal Award in 2014. In this same year, she was elected to a four-year term on the American Advertising Federation’s District 9 Board of Governors, providing leadership to clubs and federations in Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. She was also a Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier 20 Under 40 award recipient and a finalist for Iowa Women of Innovation – Business Innovation and Leadership award.
In 2016, Laura was promoted to vice president of VGM Marketing, an internal agency that specializes in marketing for the 25+ businesses of VGM Group, Inc. VGM Group is one of the largest healthcare member service organizations (MSO) in the country serving over 17,000 customers. She led a team of more than 20 marketing experts dedicated to finding creative and strategic solutions to help VGM expand its healthcare services and better serve their customers.
In 2019 she left the corporate world to realign her focus to the cannabis industry to honor her family. The loss of her brother to a drug-related heart attack and my father to brain cancer has forever shaped her life. She believes that proper education and access to cannabis would have changed their outcome. She helps cannabis brands execute their vision by crafting a delightful brand strategy for every touch point of the customer journey to provide the experience their customers want and deserve.
